VILLAGERS are selling their ‘traffic jam’ in a bid to stop further massive development to the west of St Ives.
Houghton and Wyton Parish Council is selling the conserve – layered raspberry, peach and kiwi fruit – in a bid to give the green light to lawyers to ask the High Court to show a red light to Huntingdonshire District Council planners through judicial review of the process of adopting planning guidance for 500 extra homes between St Ives and Houghton.
The parish council claims the move would risk a merger of the two communities and add 30 per cent to already congested traffic on the A1123 between St Ives and Hartford.
The ‘Traffic Jam’, made by Humbers based in Flitwick, Bedfordshire, is available in Ye Olde Village Shop and Post Office in Houghton, priced �3.50, with all profits going to the council’s fighting fund.
