The councils planning committee met on January 7 to discuss the proposal, submitted by LNT Construction and care provider, Anchor. The two-storey facility will create 40-50 new jobs and future residents are likely to come from a three-mile radius, according to the planning document. The plan includes demolition of the Marley Hayley factory, which is said to be dilapidated, having suffered several metal thefts. Councillors did raise some concerns about access to the one-acre site, which is currently via Little End Road, but a new access road is being built off Nelson Road as part of an adjacent housing development. The planning committee did express some concerns about the access road and also the fact that there are plans for care facilities half a mile away on land behind The Crown pub and also at Loves Farm. Cllr Wainwright said although the committee would have preferred the land be retained for industrial use, members were pleased that the Marley Hayley land would be used for a building project that would provide employment.
