CONSERVATIVES in Huntingdon are celebrating after a strong performance in yesterday’s local elections.
Results announced this afternoon saw the Tories gain four Huntingdonshire District Council seats, taking 19 out of the 22 seats. Lib Dems have two seats and UKIP have one.
The new leader of the district council’s Conservative group Jason Ablewhite said he was “very happy” at the results.
“The electorate have once again given the Conservatives the mandate to deliver excellent local services,” he said. “I am proud to lead what is a very robust team, and work with our new councillors.”
Two of the biggest casualties have been former St Neots mayor Gordon Thorpe, who lost his Eaton Socon seat, along with fellow Lib Dem Kendal Cooper, who lost her St Neots Priory Park seat.
Conservatives have also taken control of St Neots Town Council.
