After months of fundraising, Somersham Primary School has opened its newly-refurbished library.

The school’s Parents and Friends Association (PFA) raised more than £17,000 in less than a year to redesign the old facility.

The library was opened on Friday by writer and illustrator Stephen Meakin, author of the Inkwinks series of books.

Vicki Webb, chairman of the PFA, said “We are absolutely thrilled with the new library. It is now a modern, welcoming and vibrant space that will encourage pupils to spend time there.

“We are extremely grateful to everyone who was worked so hard to make this project happen. The whole community has rallied around to make sure it was a success.”

To raise the much-needed funds, the PFA hosted a number of events at the school including discos, a Christmas fayre, gift shops for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, Easter family bingo and a race night.

To celebrate the special occasion, pupils dressed as characters from their favourite books.
