A Huntingdon-based estate agents has launched a campaign to collect food donations for food banks in the area.

Thomas Morris launched its #OneThousandItemsofFood campaign today (Thursday) and it runs until June 21. Branch manager Alastair Smith

Staff at Thomas Morris and their customers will collect as many items of food and other supplies with the aim of collecting 1,000 items across the network. The campaign follows a similar initiative held by Thomas Morris last year when the company donated hundreds of food items. They also supported a campaign in March where they collected more than 80 coats for people.

"All of our branches at Thomas Morris are open for collection if anyone would like to donate items of food for this fantastic initiative," said Huntingdon branch manager Alastair Smith.

"All donations will be distributed through official local organisations to ensure the food gets through to the right people who need it." It is a very simple idea that should really help provide practical support for local people in need of help. I would simply ask people to contact their local Thomas Morris office, find out exactly what food is required, and donate."

The last day of the fund-raising event coincides with Agents Giving 'Donate a Food Parcel Day' on June 21. Thomas Morris works with UK estate and letting agents and their suppliers to encourage and support fundraising activities. For more information, visit agentsgiving.org.

The #OneThousandItemsofFood campaign is a nationwide event set up to tackle food poverty in the UK.
