Thieves stole a water pump from a village cemetery and smashed its base in an act of “thoughtless, mindless vandalism”.
The old-style metal pump, worth about £400, was taken from Little Paxton Lawn Cemetery between 11am on Wednesday and 2pm on Thursday (February 11-12).
It was installed by the village’s parish council in 2012 to allow visiting relatives to water flowers whilst tending the graves of their loved ones.
Parish clerk Jenny Gellatly said it had often been admired and remarked upon by visitors to the cemetery.
She added: “This is thoughtless, mindless vandalism and is unacceptable. To steal something from a cemetery is beyond belief.” INFORMATION: Anyone who can help police with their investigation should call 101, quoting the reference CF0058720215.
