Andrew Barnard, of Jubilee Avenue, Warboys, has sacrificed his flowing locks and bushy beard in return for donations for two good causes – the Skin Cancer Research Fund and The Little Princess Trust.

Both were picked with his dad, Roger, in mind as he died in January 2002 having been diagnosed with skin cancer.

The day of the haircut – his first proper one in four years – Wednesday, February 26, would also have been Roger’s birthday.

Much of what was cut off by hairdresser Lindsey Jenkins will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which helps make wigs for children receiving cancer treatment.

Mr Barnard, who is 28, said: “All went well, although I now feel the cold a bit more! I ended up having over a foot of hair that I will be able to donate which is very good.”

Sponsor money was still coming in but Mr Barnard, who thanked everyone for their support, beat his £500 target, amassing nearly £800.
