BALACLAVA-clad teenagers burst into a convenience store and demanded a shopkeeper hand over money at gunpoint.

One of the offenders pointed a long-barrelled gun at a 24-year-old member of staff and demanded he hand over cash during the robbery at Hartford Stores in Main Street. Hartford, last October.

The raiders grabbed more than 1,000 and some rolling tobacco before running off, but police recovered clothes and a gun nearby.

DNA from those items led them to arrest a 15-year-old Huntingdon teenager who has now been convicted of armed robbery and possession of a firearm

He had denied the offences but a jury at Peterborough Crown Court took less than two hours to convict him on both counts.

Detective Constable Karin Peters, who led the investigation, said: “This was a terrifying experience for the member of staff. Two masked robbers burst into the shop and pointed a gun at him and demanded he hand over money.

“The weapon was an air rifle, but was in such bad condition that it could have caused real damage had it had been fired.

“This was a long investigation to track down one of the robbers and I’m pleased he has now been brought to justice.”

The 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will be sentenced later.
