NEARLY all Hinchingbrooke School students have got at least five passes in this year’s GCSE results.

Almost 99 per cent gained A*-G grades, up from 97 per cent last year.

There was a drop in students gaining five A*-C grades at 73 per cent, down from 76 per cent last year.

Ceri Allwright, Sophie Hodgson, Ross Salisbury, Gemma Talbot and Saffron Usher all gained eight or more A* grades. Miss Allwright didn’t drop a mark in any of her three science courses.

Miss Usher got the highest point score, based on all her GCSE results, with 807 - nearly double the school average - with 14 GCSE or equivalent exams.

Fourteen-year-olds Angel Howarth and Greg Goodwin received their first GCSE results, with an A* and an A in media studies respectively.

Greg said: “It was really good to get them as I was really nervous. It’s all good practice for next year when we have more exams.

Despite the successes the school posted English results that were eight per cent down on last year and maths results were down by 10 per cent.

Charlotte Gaskin, 16 achieved two As, three Bs and three Cs with a merit in ICT which earned her a place in the Sixth Form.

She said that she was just “emotional, very emotional.”

Twins Beth and Josh Lloyd-Braiden, 15, both received brilliant results with Beth achieving five As, one B, one C and three Ds. Josh gained six A*s, four As and 5 Bs.

Beth said: “I’m really pleased, I’m able to go on to Sixth Form now,” while Josh was “unbelievably ecstatic” with his results.

Kaitlyn Maher said she didn’t expect to receive six A*s and five As and will study maths, chemistry and biology when she goes on to Year 12.

Her parents Karen and Kevin, who watched Kaitlyn open her envelope, said they were “delighted and relieved with her results”.

Happy Molly Holohan received eight Bs, one C and one A, and told The Hunts Post: “It’s over and done with. I’m happy to move on”.

Talia Bleakley was pleased with her seven Cs, one B, one D and one A.

Year 10 student, Tom Carter achieved an impressive two A*s and three As in his module results. He said: “I couldn’t sleep last night and I have been bracing myself for this day for weeks. I’m just so happy.”

Zoe Newman, 16, got all Cs and above which allowed her to get into Hinchingbrooke Sixth Form.

Some students won’t be picking up their results today, including Miss Hodgson, instead they are in Malawi building classrooms and houses to improve the educational environment of students in the African country.

Acting headteacher Di Beddow confirmed the school was querying 40 of its students results in Maths after the revelations that exams were marked down backed by the Government.

She said: “It’s particularly disappointing if there are some political games going on and where we were having students who were getting Bs throughout then got a U to take their mark down.

“The students, and teachers, have worked their socks off over the past five years we were expecting some great grades in these areas but we are disappointed with the way this has been handled.”
