Staff, patients and visitors to Hinchingbrooke Hospital will all be able to enjoy some tea and cake at an event aimed at raising awareness of dementia.

There will be home-made cakes and refreshments at the Time for a Cuppa event, which is backed by Dementia UK, and will be held inside the main entrance at the hospital on March 1. Dementia UK is raising funds for admiral nurses who help the families of people who have dementia.

Angela Moore, Hinchingbrooke Hospital’s admiral nurse, said: “There’s few things better than tea and cake with family and friends, old and new. We’re holding a Time for a Cuppa tea party so we can raise awareness and funds for Dementia UK, the only UK charity offering specialist one-to-one support and advice to people living with dementia and their families. Admiral nurses are specialists providing practical, clinical and emotional support directly to families living with dementia, so they don’t have to face it alone.”

Dr Hilda Hayo, chief admiral nurse at Dementia UK, added: “We know that living with dementia can be a hard and lonely experience. Admiral nurses work together with families to come up with the practical solutions they need to live more positively with dementia each and every day. Time for a Cuppa tea parties help us raise the essential funds to create more Admiral Nurses and we’re very grateful to everyone who holds one.”

The event is open to staff, patients and visitors and is supported by Earith-based company Dolly’s Vintage Tea Party which specialises in bespoke vintage events. The event starts at 10am.

There are currently 184 admiral nurses working across England, Scotland and Wales and Dementia UK’s target is to have 200 in place by the end of March.
