A TAXI driver was punched and kicked and had his wallet stolen during a vicious and unprovoked attack.

The robbery took place at 11.45pm on Friday (July 9) on the A1198, Ermine Street in the area of Pendrill Court, Papworth Everard.

The 37-year-old driver had collected seven people from Drummer Street bus station in Cambridge and driven them to St Neots.

Four people got out there and the remaining three asked to be taken to Papworth Everard where a further person got out.

The remaining passengers, a man and a woman, then asked to be taken to Brampton and the driver quoted them a price.

The man then became angry and got out of the taxi. He walked round to the drivers side and pulled him from the car. He punched and kicked the driver and stole his wallet which contained cash and his drivers licence. The driver suffered slight injuries in the attack.

The offenders then walked off along Ermine Street towards Huntingdon.

DC Paul Thornton investigating said : “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack and we would like to hear from anyone who may have information which could help us bring the offenders to justice.”
