A fleet of tankers has been shipping sewage and waste water away from a site in Huntingdon where engineers are tackling a “complex” repair to a damaged sewer.
The move means that people living in the Hartford Road are able to continue using their toilets and washing machines while the work takes place. Part of the town’s Riverside Park was closed off to form a base for the tanker operation.
An Anglian Water spokesman said: “We are working to repair a damaged sewer on Hartford Road. This is a complex repair and to ensure our customers can continue to flush their toilets and use their washing machines as normal we are using tankers to take used water away.
“We are sorry for any disturbance caused by the tankers working in this area.”
The spokesman said: “Engineers will be working through the night and doing everything they can to repair the damaged sewer and get things back to normal as quickly as possible.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience this vital emergency work may cause and we thank local residents for their patience and co-operation.”
