A car caught fire on a stretch of the A14 between Spaldwick and Woolley on Thursday.
Crews from Kimbolton and Huntingdon were called to the incident at about 6.15pm in the westbound lane of the busy road.
A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to extinguish a silver Vauxhall Polo that was well alight.
“The road was closed while firefighters put the fire out and they returned to stations by 7.25pm.”
An investigation revealed that the cause of the fire was accidental, by equipment.
