A TOTAL of 34 streets in Cambridgeshire will be closed at the end of April for royal wedding street parties.

Whereas the county council charges £850 for advertising road closures for commercial reasons, such as street markets, it is sticking to its policy of not charging for wedding celebrations, which it classes as community events.

The closures on Friday, April 29, include eight in Huntingdonshire, just one in East Cambridgeshire – in Carpond Lane, Wilburton – two in Fenland – Henson Road, March, and Sixth Avenue, Wisbech). The remainder are in South Cambridgeshire, including High Street, Swaffham Prior, and the city of Cambridge.

The Huntingdonshire closures include Orchard Close, Eaton Ford, between 2pm and 9pm (no diversion route), Teasel Close, Eaton Ford, between noon and 8pm (no diversion route), Fenstanton Road and High Street, Hilton, between noon and 8pm (traffic diverted via The Green and Grove End), High Street, Huntingdon, between 4pm on the Friday and 2am the following morning (no diversion), between numbers 11 and 17 Hayling Avenue, Little Paxton, from 3pm to 7pm (diversion via High Street and Hayling Avenue), and Kings Road, St Neots, between 3pm and 11pm (no diversion).

There will also be a street market and royal wedding party in Crown Street, Bridge Street and Market Hill, St Ives, involving road closures between 6am and 9pm. Traffic will be diverted by way of Oliver Road, East Street, Broad Leas and North Road.
