A man has been charged after a stolen van led police on a high speed chase the wrong way along the A14.

Officers have charged Ryan Nee, 19, of Harebell Way, Romford, of burglary and theft at Billericay on May 21, taking a motor vehicle without consent, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

A white Ford Transit van was stolen from Stock Road, Billericay, Essex, at about 1.40am on Wednesday (May 21). It was spotted near Ongar and police tried to stop it, but the van was able to escape.

The driver continued towards Hastingwood before driving north on the southbound carriageway of the M11 and A14.

The van was stopped 50 miles later at Godmanchester.

Nee was due to appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday).
