St Neots annual charity dragon boat race will take place on August 19 on Regatta Meadow.
This year’s sponsors, Lifeplus Europe and Titan Motorsport will battle it out along the river Great Ouse against the other crews in the hope of achieving first place and being awarded the James Griffin Memorial Cup.
The event is organised by St Neots Town Council, the Rotary Club of St Neots St Mary’s and St Neots Dragon Boat Team. Local scout clubs have also been invited to take part this year and a junior race will take place between the scouting clubs in the afternoon.
Spectators can enjoy the food stalls, licensed bar and live race commentary, courtesy of Black Cat Radio, as well as a children’s activity zone which includes live magic shows, arts and crafts by Vir2oso, face painting and fair rides.
Mike Truswell from the Rotary Club of St Neots St Mary’s said: “The whole event has an emphasis on fun, highlighting the wonderful facility we have in St Neots, the River Great Ouse, and a setting which is the envy of many other towns throughout the country.”
He added: “A recent national Dragon Boat Association event held on the Regatta Meadow brought great praise from the organisers, who said that it was one of the best venues in the country.”
Anyone still wishing to enter a team can download an entry form from www.visitstneots.co.uk and return it to Katie Williams at St Neots Town Council: katie.williams@stneots-tc.gov.uk. The event runs from 11am till 5pm.
