Huntingdon Community Radio (HCRfm) held its annual awards ceremony at the George Hotel last week.
HCRfm has been broadcasting since 2009, having renewed the Ofcom licence for another five years back in 2016, and its stars of the last 12 months were recognised at the annual awards event.
Kleanco ‘cleaned up’ with Advertiser of the Year while Ian’s Tyres drove away with the Sponsor of the Year.
The David Brockman Student Award was won by Emily Jarvis, who took over as chairman back in August. She oversees the student programme, Student Zone, on Sunday afternoons. The award commemorates the contributions made by the late David Brockman who was a founding member of HCR104fm.
Sue Rodwell-Smith achieved the Bill Hensley Award for her huge contribution to the return of Huntsford (HCR’s soap opera) to the airwaves plus presenting Friday’s afternoon programme, HCRpm. In addition, she presents Brief Encounters where individuals tell something of their life story and the music in that story - every second Sunday of the month.
Pete Singleton picked up the ‘Extra Mile’ Award for his great efforts in programme scheduling, overseeing the MyTunes programme (where the presenter for that Sunday showcases the music they like in their lives), for presenting Tuesday and Wednesday Drivetime and setting up and administering the internal training courses.
‘Raydio’ Award – this went to Mark Box, who has had a hand in many programmes over the years and currently presents Saturday Breakfast and Monday evening’s Soul and Motown.
Norman Knapper was named Newcomer of the Year. Starting as a producer on Over To You (the Community programme on weekdays) less than a year ago, he now presents the Tuesday programme and helps out when cover is needed.
Cory Blose rocked it by taking Specialist Show of the Year. Cory joined HCR104fm in January 2013 as a producer/presenter with Sunday’s County Matters but quickly convinced HCR that Friday night needed to ‘Rock into the Weekend’, which it does every Friday, from 10pm to midnight. His programme regularly features interviews with bands and performers.
Producer of the Year went to Clare Middlehurst who became an Over to You producer and stayed on to produce the interesting monthly feature ‘The Sky Tonight’ – it’s fascinating! Clare has been a volunteer since 2014.
Presenter of the Year was announced to be Alex Parnell. Alex is the presenter of Over to You on a Wednesday night and has also been a producer/presenter for Sunday’s County Matters since 2016. He recently took on the job of managing the station’s training programme.
