TWO women robbed an elderly man of a gold chain after failing to sell him a fake one. The theft happened in High Street, St Neots, near to the Corner House bar, between 1pm and 2pm on Saturday (July 31). Cambridgeshire police said the women approached the victim, who is in his 80s, and tried to sell him a cheap gold chain and put one around his neck. However, when he refused one of the women took the mans real gold chain and both made off. The chain, a 20in solid gold box chain with a gold cross and a gold St Christopher pendant, is of high sentimental value to the man. The women were described as being Asian in appearance, about 5ft 2in tall, with dark hair tied back and both were wearing saris. Pc James Bowen said: I believe these women used the fake chains as a distraction in order to steal the victims genuine gold chain. INFORMATION: Anyone who knows where this chain or recognises the women described should contact police on 0345 4564564 quoting incident number 386 of July 31.
