St Neots residents are being urged to have their say in the latest consultation for a document which could channel millions of pounds’ worth of investment into the town.

The Neighbourhood Plan – which sets out the strategy for development, regeneration, and conservation – has now reached the second six-week consultation stage, which is being run by Huntingdonshire District Council.

After this, an independent examination will take place, followed by a referendum. If the plan is put in place, the town would have access to more money from the Community Infrastructure Levy – payments made by developers.

The main threads that emerged from St Neots Town Council’s own consultation were issues with traffic, in particular the A428, the desire to have a wider range of both high street and boutique-style shops, and the importance of the parks and green spaces in the town.

Ed Reilly, town clerk, said: “The people of the town have clear views of what’s good about the town, what could be improved and what they think is missing, so we are sure that we have reflected that in the plan.

“It is crucial that the people of the town get behind this – it means an awful lot to them. It will mean a much greater say in how the town develops, particularly in terms of what infrastructure is required, and we will be well and truly at the table and involved in discussions because this is a policy document.”
