A St Neots pub is applying to open until 3am on Saturdays and Sundays.
The Priory, in Market Square, wants to extend its licence from 2am on both evenings. The other nights of the week would be unaffected.
While the licensing hours would be until 3am, it wants to shut the premises at 3.30am.
In the application, which will be considered by Huntingdonshire District Council’s licensing sub-committee on September 15, brewery company Marston’s states that extensive work on the acoustics has been carried out at the premises. It claims that there will be no noise nuisance or vibration in adjoining properties or at the boundary of the pub.
In a letter to HDC, Peter Harridge, of Priory Lane, objects to the application on the grounds of noise disturbance.
He writes: “The noise emanates not from the building, but from the crowd that for some reason congregates on the pavement outside, and begins to crescendo at closing time and does not completely disappear for some time afterwards.
“In addition, it would seem that when any kind of altercation breaks out (verbal or physical) the protagonists move around the corner into Priory Lane to sort out their differences.”
