Almost £12,000 was handed out to six organisations at St Neots Town Council’s annual meeting last month.

St Neots mayor, Cllr Derek Giles, set up a charity fund, which raised £11,600 over the mayoral year and his chosen four charities received a sum each and £600 was divided between the St Neots Food Bank and Vir2oso.

Priory Park Infants School was awarded £2,000 for its sensory garden; Bushmead Primary School received £3,000 for its all-weather pitch; the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, squadron 2500 was awarded £3,000 for its band and Switch Now received £3,000 for a new vehicle.

Cllr Giles thanked his staff and councillors for their “unstinting support with fundraising activities” which included a gala ball, snail race and golf day.

“This amazing achievement could not have happened without the continued support of our residents and local businesses, which has been very much appreciated,” said Cllr Giles.
