ST NEOTS: Machete-wielding driver jailed for chasing police
A MACHETE-wielding driver who chased police at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour has been jailed for four years.
Kevin Breedon, 34, had threatened a woman and a teenager with an 18-inch blade during an argument outside his home in Great High Ground, Love’s Farm, St Neots, at 2.13am on October 30.
When officers arrived, they separated the pair from Breedon and got them into a patrol car. But Breedon, who was drunk, attacked the car with his knife before jumping into his Ford Focus and attempted to give chase.
He was eventually arrested by firearms officers on the A428 after pursuing the wrong patrol car – believing the woman and boy were inside.
He pleaded guilty at Peterborough Crown Court to affray, possessing an offensive weapon, common assault, dangerous driving, drink driving and criminal damage.
On Wednesday, sentencing Breedon to four years behind bars, Judge Sean Enright described the incident as the worst case of dangerous driving he had ever come across.
Detective Constable Liz Cooper said: “This was a challenging incident for the attending officers who showed great courage and professionalism to bring the situation to a safe conclusion.

“Officers had serious concerns for their safety and the safety of members of the public.
“A decision was made to lead Breedon out of a built-up area and onto the A428 in order to make the arrest and reduce the chance of anyone else getting caught up in the incident.”
