Work to improve access for disabled people at Paxton Pits Nature Reserve has been brought forward thanks to an unexpected cash boost.
Last year, Anglia Co-operative raised more than £1,400 at a family fun day at its store in Eaton Socon.
The money raised has since been matched by the Anglia Co-operative’s Community Fund and a cheque for £2,939 has been presented to the Friends of Paxton Pits.
Chairman of the friends, Ray Matthews, said: “We are stunned by this unexpected doubling of the already substantial donation. It will enable the friends and the reserve’s rangers to bring forward several planned improvements to the nature trails, making them more easily accessible in all weathers.
“We are immensely grateful to the staff at the Eaton Socon store, and to their customers, for this important contribution to our community nature reserve.”
The reserve is managed by Huntingdonshire District Council and supported by the friends group.
