Tributes to loved ones has generated more than £6,000 for good causes in the St Neots area.

People were able to place a personalised message to their late loved ones on the St Neots town Christmas tree, for £3, with all proceeds going to charity.

The Star For A Star initiative, run by Anglia Co-operative Funerals was first launched by the Huntingdon Street funeral home in 2010 and has since raised more than £6,000 for local causes.

The Christmas 2013 tributes raised £699 for the Mayor of St Neots, Councillor Andrew Hansard’s charity fund.

This was matched by the ACCF (Anglia Co-operative Community Fund) and Funeral Director, Darren Barker presented a cheque for £1,338 to Cllr Hansard.

Darren said: “This is the most successful year we have had – people really appreciate the idea of remembering their loved ones at Christmas.”

The mayor’s charities include Papworth Trust, St Neots Army Cadets, St Neots and District Scouting Groups, Girlguiding Groups, Upside Down Swimming Club and Huntingdon and District Sea Cadets.

Cllr Hansard said: “The charities really appreciate the magnificent effort that goes into the Star For A Star campaign.

“Every year, Darren and his team continue to surpass themselves with fantastic enthusiasm and efforts.

“A huge well done to all at Anglia Co-operative Funerals.”
