A fitness teacher has been presented with flowers and gifts after more than 30 years of helping adults and children in the St Neots area to keep fit.

Janet Bedingfield, aged 64, held her last Active For Life class at the Priory Centre in December and was presented with flowers, plants and garden vouchers from members of two St Neots' classes and another she runs in Offord Darcy where she lives.

Janet, a former PE teacher at Ernulf Academy, started teaching aerobics and fitness classes in the early eighties and over the years has taught everything from gymnastics to pre-school children to step-aerobics to those aged 50-plus.

"It was a hard decision to leave as it has been such a huge part of my life, but it was time for a change," said Janet.

"Over the years I have become close to the members who attend the classes and I will miss it, but you can't go on forever and I want to do some other things."

Janet loves gardening, sewing, family history and spending time with her grandchildren, and said she wanted more time to pursue other interests.

The fitness classes will continue as other instructors will take over.
