The annual event, which took place on Saturday alongside Regatta Meadow, saw residents and businesses take part in a series of races to help raise money for charity. Some 18 crews took part in the festival this year, comprising a mixture of businesses, sporting clubs and residents, with each boat taking part in three different races, before the best-performing crews lined up for the finals. The event is organised collaboratively by St Neots Town Council, the Rotary Club of St Neots St Marys and St Neots Dragon Boat Team, with the aim to raise as much money for charity as possible. This years race was held in aid of MAGPAS and the Mayor of St Neots Charity Fund which this year is supporting Three Pillars Feeding the Homeless, Care in Cambridgeshire, St Neots burn camp, Strong for Samson, Red Balloon, Sue Ryder Hospice and Coffee Pot Memory Café. This years winners were Gainz Fitness and Strength, based in St Neots, with second place going to the Wyton Warriors from 42 Engineer Regiment, based at RAF Wyton. Third place went to Last of the Summer Wine representing the Rotary Club of St Neots St Marys. Karen Pollecutt, civic officer at St Neots Town Council, who co-organised the event said: It was a real pleasure to help organise this event, which is enjoyed immensely by competitors and spectators alike. Its success would not be possible without our co-event organisers at St Neots Dragon Boat Team, whose volunteers dedicate many hours to train the novice crews in advance of the race and the Rotary Club of St Neots St Marys whose members assisted with securing advertisers for the programme and provide several volunteer stewards to help manage the event on the day. Their assistance is invaluable and these groups are a true asset to the local community and town of St Neots.
