A St Neots business has raised £700 for Vision Aid Overseas after embarking on a 1,100 mile walk.

Adlam and Coomber Optometrists, tasked themselves to walk two million steps over the course of may, which would be the equivalent of walking from St Neots to the leaning town of Pisa in Italy.

Vision Aid Overseas is a charity that provides eye care to those that are in poverty. Just £5 fund an eye exam and a pair of glasses but be life changing for those living in deprived countries.

The virtual walk was monitored using pedometers, and the team mapped out their route virtually, aiming to average 10,000 steps a day.

The branch also pointed out the various milestones that they passed along the way on social media, such as Big Ben, the Cliffs of Dover and The Eiffel Tower.

Company director, Nichola Mason said: “Never having enough hours in the day has made this challenge tougher than we expected and some of us found ourselves pacing our lounges to complete steps. We have learnt a lot about one another and are already planning something bigger and better next year.”
