Self-build experts Kingspan Potton began their bid to build a 2,780 sq ft show barn that is 44 per cent more energy-efficient than normal in May. Work on site is deliberately at a snails pace so that self-builders and builders can follow its progress and take inspiration from some of the design features and products used. A dedicated website - www.buildapottonbarn.co.uk - posts monthly updates on the build with video featuring project manager Brent Ackerman. So far the team has finished the first fix stage of construction, which work can begin on putting plaster boards on the internal walls. So far more than 500 visitors have visited the site over two open days, including St Neots mayor Barry Chapman, took the opportunity to look around the site themselves. Free seminars and workshops on self-building are available at Pottons headquarters in Great Gransden. For further information go to www.potton.co.uk.
