Margaret Rushworth gave a talk and demonstration on eastern dance.

She explained its origins in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. The dance was started by gypsies and became popular among the elite in the Middle East. It was performed by women for other women. It became known as the belly-dance in Hollywood.

Mrs Rushworth demonstrated the dances, changing costumes and jewellery each time. Members tried the movements and were surprised to learn the swaying action comes from the knees.

Eileen Hurden, celebrating her 90th birthday, was presented with a cake.

The next meeting will be next Wednesday (July 5) in the church rooms at 2pm. The speaker will be Deana Hudson on "The Mistress, her Maid and the Men in their Lives".
