Sixteen-year-old Annabelle Carder of Tenterleas, St Ives, has decided to bathe in beans for up to 10 hours to fundraise for the St Ives Youth Theatre (SIYT). Annabelle, a member of the SIYT for five years, along with her fellow members, is raising money for the group to attend and perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The group of 60 members are hopeful in raising £32,000 in order to fund the trip in August where they are planning to take all the cast members of Vision, a play by John Hartley and Jonny Smith. The amount needed will have to cover travel and accommodation costs, as well as promotion for the production and hiring a venue. The musical tells the story of Bernadette of Lourdes through 17 rock\/pop songs. Two years ago, the SIYT attended the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where they performed What I Want To Say But Never Will by Alan Haehnel, which Annabelle describes as, one of the best experiences of my life. On Saturday, May 2 Annabelle will be sitting in a bath of beans outside the White Hart Pub in the hopes of raising £750 towards the funds for the trip. This money will pay for two people to attend the festival. Throughout the day, her fellow team members will be supporting Annabelle by singing songs from the play. The bean bath was chosen as it was thought to be a non-stressful, non-invasive way to raise money and awareness for the cause without disrupting Annabelles studies, as she will be taking her GCSE exams throughout May and June. Having previously shaved her head for the same cause in 2013, Annabelle is adamant that she will, once again, raise a large amount of money for her team. This time, however, she wants to make her fundraising attempt very much a public affair. The bean bath will take place on farmers market day in order to make sure there is high footfall in the area and will consist of bathing in a whopping 117 cans of beans, provided by her generous mum, Caroline. Each member of the SIYT has been asked to raise funds for the experience. Others took part in the Richardsons Rumble bike ride on March 22 and a future plan is for two people to be conjoined in a large T-shirt for 12 hours.
