St Ives Youth Theatre has been chosen by the Royal National Theatre in London to open the Connections Festival next month with a piece called Follow, Follow.

The company will perform at the 450-seat Dorfman Theatre on the bank of The River Thames on July 1 after winning a nationwide competition.

“It’s a huge privilege and achievement, said SIYT chairman Ian Lloyd. “It’s the youth theatre equivalent of winning the FA Cup and when you compare the resources of the other companies taking part in the Connections programme, for an unfunded company like SIYT relying entirely upon volunteer support, to gain this sort of recognition is incredible.”

Follow, Follow, is written by EastEnders and Waterloo Road scriptwriter Katie Douglas. It is set after an Orange Order march when a gang of kids head off to a park. One is robbed and events spiral out of control.

Meanwhile, SIYT stage their summer musical Vision 2015 at the Burgess Hall from July 15-18.
