St Ives Youth Theatre (SIYT) has been chosen to take part in a National Theatre programme.

The group, which finished its latest production The Ragged Child in July, will take part in the National Theatre's Connections scheme, which brings new plays specifically written for young actors to the stage, with the opportunity to perform at the London venue.

SIYT took part in the programme last year, performing at the Royal and Derngate Theatre in Northampton.

Ian Lloyd, chairman of SIYT, said: “The programme was grossly over-subscribed so it's a significant endorsement of our work that we have been selected ahead of many other companies.

“It promises to be a busy and exciting year for SIYT. Our new season offers a fantastic opportunity for all our members and this is a great time to join us.”

The group is also looking for sponsors for its March show and 20-year-old Frankie Morgan, director for the next season, hopes to take SIYT to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the fourth year next summer.
