A quilting masterpiece has been given a new home following the Co-Op St Ives team coming up with a novel way to raise money for charity.

Jill Coulson from St Ives was the lucky winner of the shop's poppy quilt knitted by shop worker Alison Bailey.

Manager Darren Hammond said: "I think Jill was over the moon that she had won the quilt."

To raise funds for Help for Heroes the shop sold numbered squares to friends, family and customers, that were then pulled out of hat.

"We raised £431 for the charity, for something that was done as a hobby it is quite a good result and it definitely brightened up the shop when it was in here," added Mr Hammond.

The employees now have more ideas to get creative and raise money for charity.

"It definitely won't be our last fundraising effort; we will have other things going on. Hopefully we can help more community projects."
