THE weather may have thrown away the chance to set a new world record, but more than 100 custard pie fighters managed to throw 40 litres of custard and 50 litres of cream at each other on Sunday.
The St Ives Youth Theatre event was aimed at beating the current record of 648 pies thrown by 253 people, but the splatastic effort at the park opposite Slepe Hall fell well short.
The event, which was part of St Ives Town Council’s silly games, which took place following the Olympic torch relay, raised almost 1,100 for the theatre group’s latest production Bugsy Malone.
“It was all very silly,” said theatre deputy chair Tim Drye, “which is exactly what we had intended. We had hoped to set a record but we are very happy that everyone had an absolute riot.”
