A car insurance company based in St Ives has set a new world record for the largest parade lap of MGs ? a world first ? at Rockingham Motor Circuit.

With 144 of the British cars making it on to the track on a full lap of the banked oval at the circuit in Corby, Northamptonshire, the event has earned Lancaster Insurance an entry in the famous Guinness Book of Records. The record was set on the evening of April 11, after all the races at the opening round of the MG Owners’ Club Championship were completed. The MG race series is sponsored by the company, which started out in 1984 as the insurance division for the MG Owners Club.

“We wanted to do something to mark the first round of the championship and what better way to do that than attempt to set a world record?” said event organiser and Lancaster Insurance’s operations director Richard Morley.

“We’re immensely proud to have set a brand new Guinness World Records title with the help of MG enthusiasts from all over the country,” said St Ives resident Richard. “It was great to see such a range of cars, but one that stands out was an MG PA Midget, one of the oldest cars there on the day.”

Guinness World Records official adjudicator Sam Mason, who verified the record, said: “I’m delighted to be able to announce that Lancaster Insurance is now the official Guinness World Records title holder for the ‘Largest Parade Lap of MGs’. A great number of participants turned up on the day and it was a terrific event to be part of.”
