Jennifer Coville, of Laburnham Way, handed in her resignation to the council at the end of last week a move that could spark a by-election and cost the council about £5,000. It is believed that she stepped down because of problems with council protocols, including having to call the mayor, Debbie Townsend, Mister Mayor. Cllr Townsend told The Hunts Post: Im sad that Jennifer has made this decision which she has taken as there was certain protocols she doesnt agree with. I wish her all the best. The town council confirmed that Ms Coville resigned from St Ives Town Council and a vacancy has been declared. A spokesman said: It is always a concern when a councillor, for whatever reason, does not complete their full four-year term but especially so this early into the new administration. At her first council meeting, Ms Coville was appointed on the property, Norris Museum and amenities committees. She declined the chance to comment. A notice of vacancy has been posted on the notice boards on the town hall and a by-election will take place if 10 electors request it of HDC before June 19.
