ST IVES Carnival and music festival held on a weekend of blazing sunshine was the best yet according to the organisers and enjoyed by some 10,000 people.
This year’s theme was the 900 years of St Ives to tie with the year long celebrations marking nine centuries since King Henry II awarded the town its charter.
The winner of best float overall was The Bridge Church, with its tribute to the 1960s, complete with a bright pink camper van carrying the classic “peace” flag.
The schools trophy went to Wheatfields, representing St Ives in the Middle Ages and the prize for the best walkers went to the town’s firefighters who were dressed as knights.
Organiser Shaun Collins told The Hunts Post: “It was really good. It was packed at the music festival, the busiest one ever and we also had more floats than usual. I want to thank Sylvia Gawthorpe and the carnival committee and St Ives Town Council for supporting us.”
Mrs Gawthorpe, who helped organise the carnival, added: “It was absolutely fantastic. The weather brings people out and we had a glorious weekend.”
