It was all about gadgets at the annual speech competition held by Huntingdonshire Speakers Club.

The competition, at the Cambridge Golf and Conference Centre in Hemingford Abbots, was won by Graham Frost, with Steve Wellman second, and Jordan Fisher in third.

Mr Frost spoke of his ideal gadget – a device that would give the ability to travel at the click of a button.

The competition tests the impromptu speaking skills of the contestants as the subject remains a secret until they step up to the podium to talk.

There was also a competition for the best humorous speech, won by Michael Gaadt, whose talk on hitting a mid-life crisis sent ripples of laughter around the room. Second place was Scott McMullen, with Alan Patterson in third spot.

Mr Frost and Mr Gaadt will represent the club at an area contest in Cambridge on Saturday (September 27).
