Shelby Stockdale wanted to help the Little Princess Trust, which creates real hair wigs for young cancer sufferers free of charge. However, the 20-year-old, of Crown Close, Warboys, said giving money did not quite seem enough. I decided that donating my hair would be more beneficial rather than just money, she said. It may be easy to throw a couple of pounds in a pot but I wanted to do something a bit different. Miss Stockdale will have most of her hair cut off by Lucid Hair Company, in The Broadway, St Ives, so that it finishes just before the ears. Staff at the salon have offered to cut her hair free at 1pm on Wednesday, January 23, to help her fundraising cause. The teaching, learning and special needs degree student, who attends New College, Nottingham, also hopes to raise £350 in sponsorship. The wigs are given to cancer sufferers free of charge but cost between £350 and £2,000 to make, she said. I want to cover the bare minimum and if I raise more than that, its a bonus. She has already raised nearly £100 in donations from family and friends, as well as online. A lot of people think its brave and people ask me a lot of questions about how much will be cut off, Miss Stockdale added. However I really dont mind doing it. The way I see it, my hair is going to grow back, so it really doesnt matter. As it is going to grow back, it is at least something I can do to help a little bit. Miss Stockdale admitted she hasnt had short hair since she was a small child but said she was more excited than nervous about the change, as well as the chance to do something good for charity.
