A man from St Neots was among eight people arrested as part of a county-wide day of action to tackle burglary.

The 36-year-old, from Duck Lane, in St Neots, was questioned on suspicion of robbery, fraud, blackmail and theft. He has since been charged with theft and is due at court next month, while investigations continue for the robbery, fraud and blackmail offence.

The day yielded great results across the county with eight suspects arrested and hundreds of homes made safer, through the work of the crime prevention teams. Staff also took part in Facebook Live Q&A sessions and a number of officers were deployed on patrols in burglary hotspots.

While every day is a day of action for all teams across the force, yesterday was a chance to not only highlight the good work of the burglary teams and apprehend burglars, but also to prevent incidents by arming people with knowledge and tools to protect their homes and property.

November is an ideal month to hold such a day as it is often when forces across the country see a spike in burglary offences.

Detective Chief Inspector, Dan Middleton, said: "Burglary is a priority area for the force and we will not become complacent in our efforts. We remain focussed on preventing burglaries and bringing perpetrators to justice."

A 51-year-old man, from Ashcroft Court, Cambridge, was arrested on suspicion of burglary. He has since been charged with burglary and is due at court early next year.

A 41-year-old man, from Jack Warren Green, Cambridge, was also arrested on suspicion of burglary. He has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

The other three arrested were a 25-year-old man, from Long Drove, Cottenham, who has since been released under investigation; a 27-year-old man, at a unit on the Barnwell Business Park in Cambridge, who has been released under investigations while inquiries continue and a 41-year-old man, from Trumpington Road, Cambridge, on suspicion of theft, burglary and breaching a court order.

Two men, aged 35 and 46, from Willow Walk and Maids Causeway, in Cambridge, were arrested and charged for burglary offences.
