An infant school’s plea for help to tackle a wave of vandalism has been answered by a kind-hearted security firm.

Priory Park Infants, based in Almond Road, St Neots, was left counting the cost after a spate of vandalism which saw windows smashed, buildings broken into, and equipment damaged over a period of several months leading up to the summer break.

The matter came to a head when vandals climbed onto the roof of the school in order to spray paint an obscenity in 4ft lettering.

The school put out an appeal for help via its social media channels and the call was answered by St Neots firm, Infinite Group.

The company carried out a review of the school site and agreed to install a new CCTV system which has been linked in to the school’s computer network and will allow teachers to monitor activity on the premises, both on site and remotely during the holidays.

Jonathan Pope, sales director at the Infinite Group, said: “It’s great to give back to the community that supports us. As a small business we usually only fund one community project a year, but we saw Priory Infants’ call for help on their social media which really struck a chord with us and we knew straight away that we had to support them.

“The new equipment that we have installed at the school will both act as a deterrent to would-be vandals, whilst also supplying valuable footage in the event of an incident.”

Since the cameras were installed, almost two weeks ago, the school confirmed there had been no subsequent incidents of vandalism.

Head teacher Angie Smith said: “Following a recent spate of intrusion and destruction to the school, we felt the urgency to increase our security measures through the installation of CCTV.

“Unfortunately our school budget would not run to this expense so we asked our wonderful parent community for their help, support and ideas. We are so grateful that the Infinite Group came forward to offer us free installation of cameras and CCTV equipment.

“We can’t thank them enough for their generosity - we are sure that this will make a huge difference to both the safety of our school and our local community.”
