A second man has been arrested over the murder of Sam Mechelewski, 20, whose body was found at Hinchingbrooke Park.
The man, in his 20s and from Brampton, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon.
His arrest follows that of another man, also in his 20s and from Chatteris, who was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Sam. He remained in police custody on Tuesday night.
Sam was found in a wooded area of the Huntingdon park by a member of the public on Thursday.
Sam, who was from Huntingdon but did not have a fixed address, was identified by police on Saturday.
Police carried out extensive investigations in a section of the wood, which was cordoned off. They also carried out door-to-door inquiries in the area as well as checking nearby roads and have searched an address in Chatteris.
The area where Sam’s body was discovered is at the opposite end of the park to the main entrance and closer to the A14. There is a small entrance to the park close to the search area from nearby housing.
The section of woodland was closed to the public during the investigation of the site, leading to the cancellation of a park run at the weekend, but has now reopened.
Detective Chief Inspector Adam Gallop said: “We believe this was a targeted attack that has sadly resulted in the death of a young man.
“We’re slowly piecing together Sam’s movements from 8pm onwards on Wednesday (January 31).
I appeal to anyone who knows Sam and saw him that evening, or anyone who was in the park and noticed anything suspicious, to contact us as a matter of urgency.”
In a statement, Sam’s family said: “The last 24 hours have been the worst of our lives. Sam will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
“Sam was no angel, but his life should not have ended this way. If anyone has information please contact the police.”
