Julia lost her 13-year battle with breast and bowel cancer in April this year. Ellen enlisted the help of her class mates and teacher and held a cake sale at her school. Donations of cakes and biscuits flooded in from the community and raised £215. Accompanied by her dad, Adrian, and brother, Ben, Ellen presented the funds from the cake sale to Dr Cheryl Palmer, who treated Julia at the centre, in Huntingdon. Dr Palmer said: On behalf of all of the staff at the centre, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Ellen, Adrian, Ben and everyone who helped in the cake sale. Losing a loved one is a very difficult time for families, and this is a really positive way to honour Julias memory. She was an incredibly special lady. Ellen has advised that we can use these funds to purchase equipment for the chemotherapy unit. This is fantastic and will be put towards the purchase of additional scalp cooling machines that can help to ensure patients keep their hair when receiving chemotherapy.
