Kimbolton School pupils took the opportunity to quiz award-winning journalist, author and television presenter Jeremy Paxman, when he spoke at one of the school’s regular Politics Society evenings.

The packed session on October 2, was opened by Lewis Hall and Mr Paxman shared his forthright views on Europe, politicians, America, and politics in general. The evening concluded with a lively question-and-answer session, with discussion ranging from the future of the main political parties and how social media is stifling political debate, to democracy in the European Union.

The school’s politics and philosophy society is open to all year groups, with a termly programme of meetings and guest speakers. Recent topics for discussion have included Mexican politics and the Northern Ireland peace process.

Head of politics, Toby Leadbetter, said: “In addition to a wide ranging and honest conversation with a large audience of around 350, Mr Paxman also spent time taking questions from students over tea and supper. He was most generous with his time and with sharing his views. Our students found him very engaging.”
