More than 100 children from across the region joined together in Ramsey to celebrate the start of the agricultural year – Plough Monday.
Pupils from Ramsey Community Junior School welcomed students from the likes of Watlington and Wimbotsham to the town on January 9, before taking part in a colourful procession alongside deputy mayor, Councillor Doug McIlwain.
Arriving at Abbey Green, the children then performed a traditional routine of Molly dancing in front of parents and residents.
“It’s a chance for the children to show off what they’ve been doing,” Michelle Juniper, deputy head of Ramsey Junnior School, said.
“They like an audience and it’s just the excitement of continuing the tradition too. They learnt all about the tradition and the dancing, but they really liked doing it in front of an audience and performing it.”
With rain forecast, only Year 6 pupils had the chance to perform on the day, but other years at the school were treated to the show once they returned.
