Residents and councillors of Sawtry gathered together to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of a soldier from the village in the First World War.

For the past few years Sawtry Parish Chairman Delia Riddle has been laying wreaths for the fallen that came from the village.

Cllr Riddle said: “This was the 5th wreath that I have put down – it was a lovely little service and a nice thing to be able to show respect 100 years down the line.”

Supported by Royal British Legion, on each occasion a wreath is laid at All Saints Church while the Last Post is played.

“Every time we try and find a picture of the soldier and some information about them so each one has their own personal wreath,” added Cllr Riddle. These ceremonies are set to be carried out until the last solider is remembered.
