A sportsman’s dinner in St Neots that featured BBC commentator and former rugby international Brian Moore as the guest speaker raised more than £10,000 for charity.

The 25th Annual Charity Sportsman’s Night was organised by the Rotary Club of St Neots St Mary’s and took place at the Priory Centre on March 5. More than 300 representatives from businesses attended the event which is “the highlight” of the club’s annual fund-raising activities.

“Brian kept the audience richly entertained with a highly amusing insight into the world of commentary as well as his career as a rugby player and also as a practising solicitor in the days before fully professional rugby,” said Rotary club president David Lawrence.

Special guests included Ken Billington, Rotary district governor, and Stephen Moody, area manager for the SCOPE charity. A cheque for £3,000 was handed to SCOPE during the evening.
