The Rotary Club of St Ives had a busy time at the town’s corn exchange on Saturday, giving free blood pressure details to anyone who wanted to check their readings.

In conjunction with the Stroke Association, volunteers took readings from 89 people, with nearly 60 all-clear, whilst the remainder were recommended to check with their GPs.

A spokesman for the club said: “Huge thanks go to Dr George Smearden and Jill Hyde for manning the monitors together with Rotarians Beccy Roberts and Odele Stevens, all of whom also took time to talk through the readings with everyone who had their blood-pressure taken.”

Organiser Bill Knight added: “The events are held by the Stroke Asociation and Rotary to help people to understand the link between high blood pressure and stroke, s well as other risk factors, and what they can do about it.”
