The cyclist, a man in his 50s, was heading along the A1123 at Needingworth on Friday (March 20) just before 4pm when he approached a roundabout and signalled to more to the right hand lane. A driver in a grey/beige Audi A6 swerved in front of him, leading to a verbal confrontation. Both turned right at the roundabout, but the driver got out of his car and waited for the cyclist to pass. As the cyclist went by, the driver punched the rider in the head, who toppled over into a opposing traffic and was hit by a car. He suffered minor injuries. The motorist, who drove off after the attack, is described as a white male, in his 40s, about 6 ft with short grey hair and was wearing a maroon zip-up sweatshirt and blue jeans. Pc Adam Whelan said: This was a nasty incident of road rage, thankfully no one was seriously injured although this could have been a different matter. I would appeal to anyone who saw this happen, or who saw either the Audi or cyclist in the moments leading up to the incident to contact police. INFORMATION: Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
