Food retailer Budgens has announced it will be closing its store in St Ives.
Although the retailer was unable to confirm when the branch, in Market Hill, would close, a company spokesman said that the site could be taken over by discount store Poundstretcher.
The spokesman told The Huns Post: “In St Ives we have been unable to find an alternative food retailer to take over the store and as a result we have entered into a sub-lease with Poundstretcher. As a result, we have taken the difficult decision to close the store.
“We will be entering into individual consultations over the coming weeks to seek to mitigate the effects of this proposal and are, therefore, unable to comment further.”
The Hunts Post also contacted Poundstretcher, which said plans for it to move into the store had not yet been confirmed.
It’s not known how many jobs will be affected by the closure, or how many jobs will be created as a result of the sub-lease.
